A registered educational trust rooted in the freedom movement of 1944 — nurturing 22,000+ students across 25 institutions spanning Pre-Primary, Pre-University, Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Professional, and Vocational programmes at Vidyagiri, Dharwad.
Janata Shikshana Samiti (JSS), Dharwad, is a registered educational trust with roots dating to 1944 — born out of the freedom movement, with the establishment of JSS Arts College under the Karnataka Education Board. The institution was formally registered as Janata Shikshana Samiti in 1952, under the pioneering leadership of Late Shri R.S. Hukkerikar, a veteran freedom fighter, social worker, and economist who shaped it into a beacon of quality education.
On 18th October 1973, the administration was entrusted to Poojya Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala, with the divine blessings of H.H. Vishweshwara Teertha Swamiji of Pejavar Math, Udupi. Under his visionary leadership, JSS expanded rapidly — introducing Pre-University, Degree, Postgraduate, Professional, Technical, and Vocational programmes — growing into a comprehensive academic ecosystem that today comprises 25 institutions on the 41-acre Vidyagiri campus, serving more than 22,000 students.
To provide accessible, quality education rooted in Indian values —
developing individuals who contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.
